Surf Skate Roots Rock est une réunion de famille de certains des plus grands noms de l’histoire du surf et du skate de la côte ouest. Cette « fête de l’art et de la musique », organisée par Dan Spillane du 91 Club au Vortex DTLA, téléportera les participants dans une fête rock ‘n roll de la vieille école, tout en présentant des œuvres d’art originales des grands noms de Dogtown/Z-Boy. Alan Scott est un ancien patineur professionnel et a la réputation d’organiser des soirées artistiques et musicales dans le quartier de Westside depuis les années quatre-vingt. Son dernier grand événement a été la soirée d’ouverture officielle du long métrage Les Seigneurs de Dogtown, un film légendaire sur les racines de la culture surf/skate et le Westside, dont l’influence sur la mode, l’art et la musique ne s’est jamais démentie jusqu’à aujourd’hui. Josh « Bagel » Klassman est un vétéran du surf sur le Venice Breakwater et un photographe légendaire qui a documenté ce mouvement culturel de manière organique depuis le début. Ensemble, ils préparent un événement qui réunira les icônes du Westside sous un même toit. Du skateur G.O.A.T. Tony Alva au champion du monde de surf Corky Carroll, ce rassemblement riche en culture accueillera toute une série de membres de la famille royale du Westside. Surf Skate Roots Rock débordera de l’art, de la photographie et de la musique des légendes du surf et du skate. The Reincarnation Of A Surfboard by Ithaka

HoodLamb team rider Ithaka presented his latest range of contemporary sculptures made from recycled surfboards during the "The Reincarnation Of A Surfboard" exhibition in Gallery WOA: Way Of Arts in Cascais, Portugal. Ithaka (Ithaka Darin Pappas) is a hip hop artist, sculptor, artistic photographer, writer and surfer from Southern California, who currently lives in Brazil.

While living in Lisbon, he recorded his first two hip hop albums, Flowers and the Color of Paint and Stellafly. Ithaka later returned to California where he recorded his third album called Somewhere South Of Somalia with producer Conley Abrams III. Later Ithaka relocated his base to Rio de Janeiro where he recorded his two most recent albums, Recorded In Rio and Saltwater Nomad.

In addition to creating music, his short story series entitled, Fishdaddy Chronicles, has appeared in surfing magazines around the world including Surfer, The Surfer's Journal, Water and Transworld Surf". In 2009, his short story "Miracle At Malibu" was published in the book entitled Surf Story, a collective volume of stories and surf culture.

His abstract photographic art and body of sculpture work known as The Reincarnation Of A Surfboard have been exhibited globally, his most recent solo showings were hosted by Gallery WOA (Way Of Arts) in Lisbon, Portugal in November 2007, The Camp in Costa Mesa, California in June 2010 and Gallery Alma Do Mar in São Paulo, Brazil in October 2010. At present the artist creates most of his works at Recanto Akahti, his small ranch in rural South America located on the edge of the Atlantic Rainforest in AkahtiLândia, Brazil.

"TARO REEF" - a surrealist photography series by artist: Ithaka (plant waves photographed by Ithaka Darin Pappas in Brazil) The featured images were all photographed at Taro Reef during a single winter season. Taro Reef is located at AkahtiLândia, Ithaka's mini-ranch and art studio situated in the Mata Atlântica (Atlantic Rainforest) in the State of São Paulo (Brazil). Although multiple attempts were made to continue the series, the taro patch at AkahtiLândia (Taro Reef) never again received ideal lighting conditions, nor did the curves of the leaves again emulate ocean waves as they had that one winter. The "Taro Reef" project is uniquely comprised only of the images on this presentation.

It was just the start for the surfer turned artist – who now goes by the name Ithaka – a three-decade journey that would lead him to live near waves at exotic places around the world, scouring surf breaks for demolished boards to breathe new life into them. Now, the Anaheim native has returned home to Orange County to showcase his art at a show, “Reincarnation of a Surfboard,” on Friday at the Hurley headquarters in Costa Mesa.

“I think it’s kind of like returning to my roots in a way,” he said. “It’s like a homecoming.”

Like many surfers, it was love at first sight. The then-12-year-old was on a vacation in Hawaii with a friend when he first got a glimpse of surfers taking on Honolua Bay, where guys were getting barreled under 6-foot waves.
